Langanesi:1763-1794

Family of Sigurdur Sigurdsson & Gudfinna Thorfinsdottir

Our paternal fourth great grandfather, Sigurdur Sigurdsson was born to Sigurdur Olafsson and Gudfinna Thorfinsdottir at Langanesi, Nordur Thingeyjarsysla, Iceland. The baby boy, the couples first born, was christened the same day. The couple had at least four other children, with at least one dying in infancy.

On September 18, 1791, Sigurdur Sigurdsson a Bóndi (farmer) á Skálum á Langanesi in Island (Iceland) married Astridur Olafsdottir, a daughter of Olafur Einarsson (b.1740) and Gudrun Jonsdottir (b.1740). Astridur, our paternal fourth great grandmother, was born in 1765 in Fremri, Hlid, Vopnfjord, Iceland. Sigurdur’s widow Astridur was left with nine children to raise, the eldest being only 13 and the youngest 4.
